DNA study : Apologia : Exploring Creation With General Science

Last year, we tried a new curriculum ... Apologia.

I was able to get the First Edition books through CBD for a huge discount.

Story was using Exploring Creation With General Science  -      1st Ed.

This project was designed to help the student understand a DNA strand.

It was on pgs. 220 - 224 - and it took Story a little over an hour to do her strand of  2 pipe cleaners.

  1. Wow, that's a long time!
We used twizzlers candy for the sides, and marshmallows on toothpics for the neucleotides.
Other than that, did you like the science?

    1. She really got absorbed into it and had a strand almost 2/3 of her height! We have really liked the curriculum, they have a lot of materials to go with it, short movies to help explain and a notebook package as well. The experiments and activities are pretty easy to follow.

This was fairly complicated, as it had her stringing certain colors of beads and then twisting them together, and she probably could have done the activity in a lot less time had she not made it so long.

    2. Wow, that was long! Sounds like she really got into the project. =)

We've done General, Physical Science, and Biology. I can't decide which I like best between Physical and Biology. Parts of General I liked better than others since it was a variety.

If you want more videos, I have some posted for each module on one of my blogs. I find stuff online and post them together for the kids in my "class." I'll be updating the Physical ones as we go thru it again this fall. Some of my favorites were deleted from youtube - the ones from 'Eureka!' which were SO good. =(
