Science and History for Kindergarten

Our public library has about 50 books on CD
in the category of science or history.

Scholar loved to check them out,
and he got to choose the ones he wanted.

He loved Ben Franklin.
And the Bats.

He sat for close to an hour,
with his headset, listening and turning pages
in the books.

Sometimes he changed books,
and sometimes, he didn't.

He did the same thing with his MP3 player.
On his player right now are "50 Famous Stories Retold"

with stories from the Greeks and Alexandar all the way through William Tell.
Some of the stories are more legend,
and some are more supported by facts.

He also has a Beatrix Potter Treasury.

Both free through LibriVox.

He had a lot of songs and other stories as well.

Sometimes, he likes to play with his Legos
while he listens.

So he get's math and physics in too.

Do you like his airplane?

Scholar still learns by listening, though he's added videos to his list of options.
I frequently download videos for him to watch.
Then he deletes them when he is finished.
I think this is safer than letting him loose with Youtube.
Sometimes it is hard to keep up with him.

G is for Grow Garden

G is for Grow Garden

We used Green for Grow - like in the wordless books

Then I used potpourri that I had on hand
The kids picked out what they wanted to glue down,
though I had to keep removing the pine cones and nuts
which were much too heavy for the construction paper.

We left them on the window to dry.

First we discussed the wordless book ...

When we reached the color GREEN,
we spent quite a while talking about how to GROW
once you ask Jesus into your heart and let his blood wash away your sins.

Read the Bible
Pray
Sing Praise Songs
Go to church
Obey Parents and Teacher

We also talked about the Garden of Eden,
and how SIN had entered the world.

Finally,
we talked about the New Heaven and the New Earth,
and how God will make the whole earth brand new again.

E is for Eternal

We chose ETERNAL or ETERNITY
for our E word.

We discussed that God was eternal,
that he didn't have parents or a beginning,
and that he would never die.

We also discussed heaven and living for eternity.
We briefly mentioned hell as well for balance,
but as the preschool/kindergarten age are sensitive
to "scary details" - I chose to not elaborate.

We talked about some symbols for eternal,
such a a line that could go on forever,
or counting forever,
or a circle that just goes around and around.

We chose YELLOW for our letter E
to remind the kids of the color of GOLD and Heaven.

We did "5 Golden Rings" ...
bet you can guess why?
LOL

Earth Craft - Thank You God for the Earth

Our last day of
Thank You God for the Gift of ...

The EARTH.
and ANIMALS.

Sunshine was very sick one Sunday morning, so we had missed a week of Jr. Church.

So I combined the two themes.

I also forgot my camera,
so Song took these pictures with her camera.

First,
we talked about Creation, and the things God Created.
We talked about the things in the sea,
in the air,
on the land,
and the Earth itself.

I also gave them snowflakes ...
and they drew pictures of animals and birds and fish
on the backs.

Plus,
each child received a gold ball,
and they colored the land and water
with a crayon.

These were plastic,
and it worked well.

Alphabet Advent: P is for Patience

P is for Patience
and Plan
and Perfect
and Peace

God had a Perfect Plan from the very beginning.
He knew man had to have a choice.
And he knew man would choose to sin.
But God wanted man to be at Peace with himself and with each other.

God is also patient.
And it took him 4000 years (give or take a few)
to bring his plan from creation
to salvation.

Now we are awaiting the eternal Kingdom of God
here forever on earth
with a conquered death,
sin, and Satan.
"The Lion and the Lamb" (Jesus), a lion on one side, a lamb on the other with the Holy Spirit as a flying dove and a cross. This is an illustration for a book about Aslan from the Chronicles of Narnia.

Even so,
come quickly Lord Jesus.
Rev. 22:20
