Photo Fun: Brown

Story's Hair ...  I think it's gorgeous.
She has more hair than all of the rest of us combined,
though I suspect that if the Ref and Scholar were to grow their hair this long,
they might give her some competition.

Our church sewed dresses for orphans in the CAR.

One of Song's bunnies.

My Dad cutting trees from around our house.
After the drought two years ago,
this was necessary -
before the trees died any more and dropped damaging limbs onto our trailers.

Not all of the trees were dead or dying.
It was sad to fell a few healthy ones to have room to bring down the dying ones.

We have "tons" of cedar on our property.
This one was huge and healthy.
We've saved all of the wood to build something out of it later.

Apple of his Momma's Eye

Blast From Our Past - November 2008 ... Scholar was 3, about the same age as Sunshine is now.

--------------------------------------------

He would eat 4-5 apples a day if he could, and bananas, watermelon, cantalope, and other fruits .... vegetables too.

I'm impressed - even a cell phone can sometimes catch a great picture.

Gotta LOVE that smile!

Snow Day for Christmas

In my entire 44 years of life,
I had only had a White Christmas
ONCE.
When we lived in Longmont.

Snow around here is quite rare.
East Texas has interesting weather.

Usually, we get stuff I've dubbed Sneet.
Sneet is half snow and half sleet - not really all of either,
really cold,
really slippery,
and miserable to be out in.

So it was super exciting to have a snow storm roll in Christmas night.

The thunderstorm that came with it was
.... not fun ....
but it left the world white and beautiful
for playing the next day.

Typical of our area,
not everywhere was white.

But still, where it did stick was often over 2 inches.

It wasn't good for packing,
so not many snowmen showed up in the yard,
and we had a LOT of broken limbs and trees.

It finally finished melting off on Friday.
Which was amazing ... snow never lasts that long around here!

Now we are stuck in the "miserable cold" weather.
Temps drop to freezing at night,
hover in the 40's and low 50's during the day,
and the air feels wet,
with a breeze that eats into your bones.

When I lived in Colorado Springs,
it never ceased to amaze me that I was not as cold there at 20 degrees,
as I always felt here at 40 degrees.

Photo Fun: Yellow

Yellow happens to be my favorite color ...
and Scholar's favorite color.

And yet this challenge was harder than I expected it to be,
not because I had too many choices ...
but because I had almost NONE that I thought good!

Go figure.

Spring Flowers in our yard.

Scholar's Yellow Room.

My Yellow kitchen.
Minus the great big table.

Growing a crystal tree.

Scholar wears a LOT of yellow.

Photo Fun Saturday: Story's Education

September is over ...
and so is the Photo Fun days.

They will do a few more,
like a black/white sometime in October.

BUT
I had so much fun looking through old photos,
that I thought I would keep doing it for a while.

I was going to do
School Desks.

But it kind of turned into
20 pictures
of
Story's Education

Portable Fun Worksheets at the Kitchen Table.

Alpha Omega Kindergarten

Sitting ON the table to work.
Instead of a chair.

Reading in Bed

Switched On Schoolhouse
3rd Grade

Spelling
sitting on the floor

Running with Grandpa

Decorating Cakes with Grammy

A new desk
painted special for her!

Outside

Cuddling with newborn baby brother
I couldn't believe the amount of work she could churn out
while holding her napping baby brother.

Too bad he grew up.

Grating beeswax
to make salves.

Learning to care for baby brother

Exploring friction and physics
while entertaining baby brother.

The blocks were ABC Peek A Boo Blocks.

We still have these and they still play with them.

Putting together puzzles

Field Trip to the Zoo
We have not been to the zoo since this day ....
they were doing behind the scenes special invites.
Our family pass ran out a few weeks later,
and they changed the family pass rules the next year as well as
increasing the price.
Growing up,
this was a free zoo.
We really miss it.
But such is life.

Learning to knit

Other trips to the zoo.
Helping with the younger cousins and sibs.
Story has always been the oldest.
She does have 2 cousins older, but they live far away.

Painting

Writing a Play
and helping produce it for Church.

She actually wrote
4
Big Wig plays.

Here she plays
Great Aunt Matilda
in "The Two Daughters".

She also wrote,
The Prodigal Daughter (our church was mostly girls at the time)
Real Riches (a Christmas Play)
and
Adopted (for Easter).

She plans to tweak the plays
and release them on Kindle next summer.
