G is for Grow Garden

G is for Grow Garden

We used Green for Grow - like in the wordless books

Then I used potpourri that I had on hand
The kids picked out what they wanted to glue down,
though I had to keep removing the pine cones and nuts
which were much too heavy for the construction paper.

We left them on the window to dry.

First we discussed the wordless book ...

When we reached the color GREEN,
we spent quite a while talking about how to GROW
once you ask Jesus into your heart and let his blood wash away your sins.

Read the Bible
Pray
Sing Praise Songs
Go to church
Obey Parents and Teacher

We also talked about the Garden of Eden,
and how SIN had entered the world.

Finally,
we talked about the New Heaven and the New Earth,
and how God will make the whole earth brand new again.

E is for Eternal

We chose ETERNAL or ETERNITY
for our E word.

We discussed that God was eternal,
that he didn't have parents or a beginning,
and that he would never die.

We also discussed heaven and living for eternity.
We briefly mentioned hell as well for balance,
but as the preschool/kindergarten age are sensitive
to "scary details" - I chose to not elaborate.

We talked about some symbols for eternal,
such a a line that could go on forever,
or counting forever,
or a circle that just goes around and around.

We chose YELLOW for our letter E
to remind the kids of the color of GOLD and Heaven.

We did "5 Golden Rings" ...
bet you can guess why?
LOL

D is for Dove

D is for Dove

We looked at several stories about Doves,
and other significant factors in the Bible.

1.  God Created the Dove

2.  It was one of the clean animals that Noah took 7 of into the ark.

3.  We reviewed the story of Noah,
and the part the Dove played in the story.

4.  We talked about how God allowed a dove to substitute for a lamb
for a sacrifice if the people were too poor to bring a lamb.

5.  Mary brought Doves when she brought Baby Jesus to the temple.

6.  We reviewed the story of Jesus' baptism,
especially the part where the Holy Spirit descended as a dove.

7.  Briefly mentioned that the Dove is often a symbol of peace.

We used their hands to form the wings.
And I haphazardly drew a bird head,
and was impressed with the results.
(I can't draw).

Sunshine's Dove was unique.

A couple of the bigger girls were quite elaborate with their decorations.

I encouraged them to draw the stories and pictures from our discussions,
onto the D part of their Doves.

This is suppose to be John and Jesus at the baptism.

The kids erased most of the blackboard before I remembered to take a picture.

Jr. Church Craft: A is for Angel

In Jr. church (aimed at our 2 - 5 year old group),
we are going through the alphabet to teach some important
beliefs from the Bible.

I thought this would be a great way to tie together some aspects of the Bible,
as well as introduce and discuss topics that often are overlooked.

Our First Week,
we featured A is for Angels.

First we talked about what angels were ....

created beings that served God  - not dead humans.

We talked about what they looked like....

strong male like creatures, that may or may not have wings,
and often spoken of having fiery swords.
Every time anyone sees one in the Bible,
the angel has to tell them, "Do not be afraid."

We talked about

Satan as the angel Lucifer.
The angel in the Garden of Eden protecting the Tree of Life.
Angels talking to men in the Old Testament - like Abraham.
Angels rescuing Lot from Sodom.
Angels protecting Elisha ... and they couldn't be seen by the servant.
The Angel who visited Mary and Joseph,
and the Angels who visited the shepherds.

The kids decided that angels were pretty important to be talked about SO MUCH!

During Craft Time,

they had pictures of angels to color,

PLUS

We cut out white letter A's (and triangles and wrote A)

We placed a head on the top of the A

And glued feathers to the back.

Sunshine shows her Angel.
She loves drawing faces.

This is a picture of heaven.

Our friend Pinky comes to church with us.
She is really into the coloring part.

J showing me a letter A with his pencils.

I'm no great artist,
but the kids love this ...
because they can turn their papers over and copy what I draw.

Some of them are as good and will soon be better than I am!

Earth Craft - Thank You God for the Earth

Our last day of
Thank You God for the Gift of ...

The EARTH.
and ANIMALS.

Sunshine was very sick one Sunday morning, so we had missed a week of Jr. Church.

So I combined the two themes.

I also forgot my camera,
so Song took these pictures with her camera.

First,
we talked about Creation, and the things God Created.
We talked about the things in the sea,
in the air,
on the land,
and the Earth itself.

I also gave them snowflakes ...
and they drew pictures of animals and birds and fish
on the backs.

Plus,
each child received a gold ball,
and they colored the land and water
with a crayon.

These were plastic,
and it worked well.
